Short term storage above 32*F
For storage at 32* and above for 60 days or less these steps should be
taken:
- Fill fuel tanks to full - prevents water condensation in the fuel tanks.
- When parking the vehicle try to get it as level as possible. (Side to side
and end to end).
- Turn off refrigerator, remove all perishables, and leave the doors open.
- Ventilate the living area, open all the doors and drawers.
- Be sure to turn off the water pump and hot water heater, drain water and
holding tank prep as above.
- Turn off LP at tank valve.
- Insure the furnace and thermostat are 'off'.
- Insure that the stove and oven pilot lights are in the 'Pilot off'
position.
- Plug or tape up all sink drains and shower drain to prevent the
evaporation of the anti-freeze and residual water. (if the pipe joints dry out
you will have leaks when you use the RV again).
- Tape up all ventilation ports, this will keep insects from entering the
vehicle while it is stored. BE SURE to remove the tape before lighting the
furnace or using the stove/oven!
- Check the interior of the vehicle at least once a week, look for water
seepage, mold, and musky smell. You can use an aerosol spray to combat the
musky smell but you need to find the source of the smell and eliminate it.
- Leave one window cracked to allow some ventilation, I suggest one that has
a screen covering it to prevent insects from nesting in your RV.
- Insure the tires stay pressurized to the manufactures recommended
pressure.
- Start the vehicle once a week, let it run for at least 15 minutes. Check
the transmission fluid, engine oil, and generator oil levels. Look for leaks
under the vehicle.
- Check all lead acid battery levels, top off with water.
- If the vehicle needs to be moved be sure to let it run at least two
minutes in 'Park' before putting in drive, the torque converter may have
drained down during the storage period.
